Usually a bad hall sensor or a failing phase wire. Sometimes a sheared coupling on mid-drive systems. We bench test to tell you which. On hub motors, a hall sensor is often repairable with a soldered replacement, much cheaper than a full motor swap.
Sometimes. Hub motors with bearing wear, hall sensor failure, or shot magnets can occasionally be rebuilt depending on brand and parts availability. Motors with burned windings usually need replacement.
Not always. The most common mobility scooter motor issue is a worn brush on older DC motors, or a stuck electromagnetic brake. Both are inexpensive fixes. Full motor-transaxle replacement is more involved but rarely needed before 10+ years of use.
