What's Included

What's included in scooter brake service

From a quick pad swap to a full cable-and-caliper rebuild, we handle every common brake issue. A well-adjusted brake system is the single biggest safety upgrade on any scooter.

  • Disc brake pad replacement (mechanical and hydraulic systems)
  • Drum brake adjustment and shoe replacement
  • Regenerative brake diagnostics and controller calibration
  • Brake cable and housing replacement
  • Rotor truing and replacement
  • Caliper alignment and piston service
  • Full brake lever and return-spring service
  • Mobility scooter electromagnetic brake adjustment

Why scooter brakes wear fast

A 40-pound scooter with a rider approaching 20 mph asks a 140mm rotor to do the job a mountain bike's 180mm rotor does. That's why pads wear fast, rotors glaze, and the lever starts to feel mushy.

We replace pads early, keep rotors true, and adjust cable tension to the point where one finger brings you to a confident stop. If your scooter still relies only on regen braking, we can often add a stronger mechanical brake.

Common Questions

Brake Service questions, answered.

My regen brake feels weak. Can you fix that?

Yes. Regen brake strength is set in firmware and adjustable on most controllers. We can often increase regen braking through controller programming, and on some scooters we can add a rear drum or disc brake for a stronger mechanical backup.

How often should I replace brake pads?

On a scooter ridden daily, typically every 500 to 1,500 miles depending on conditions and brake habits. We measure pad thickness at every service and tell you how much life is left.

Can you upgrade my scooter's brakes?

Often, yes. We can swap mechanical disc calipers for better ones, upgrade to a larger rotor when the mount allows, or add a drum brake in the rear wheel. We'll tell you what's compatible with your specific model.

My drum brake rattles. Is that bad?

Usually not dangerous but annoying. A rattle is almost always return spring fatigue or a loose shoe. We'll fix it in a few minutes.

Are mobility scooter brakes serviceable?

Yes. Mobility scooters use electromagnetic regen brakes combined with a mechanical release. We adjust the free-wheel lever, service the electromagnetic brake, and replace motor brake assemblies when needed.
