A hand-built wheel from scratch takes about two hours of bench time plus a day to settle and re-tension. Total turnaround is usually two to three business days if all the parts are in stock.
For most bike builds we recommend heavy-gauge straight-pull or J-bend spokes from Sapim or DT Swiss (Strong, Force, Competition Race, or similar). For cargo bikes and heavier riders, we go heavier. We discuss the options before the build.
Yes, if the wheel is otherwise sound. We replace the broken spoke, re-tension the neighbors, and true the wheel. If the rim is cracked or the hub is worn, we'll tell you whether replacement is the better call.
Yes. We service sealed-bearing hubs (Shimano, DT Swiss, Hope, Industry Nine, and most major brands), replace bearings, service freehub bodies, and overhaul cup-and-cone hubs. We'll tell you whether a hub is worth saving or needs replacement.
The rim and spoke loads are higher and the cycle count from heavier riders and more mileage is higher. Bike-rated hubs with more/stiffer bearings, heavier spokes, and stronger rims last much longer than regular bike equivalents. We build with those parts when it's an bike.
